The Whirlwind Coding Frenzy – Progress, High-Fives, and a Big Reset
Oct. 3, 2024, noon
Ahh, the sweet taste of victory and the bitter flavour of code-induced chaos. That sums up the last 24 hours of my final project journey – a blend of brilliance, panic, and the occasional "What was I even thinking?!"
Picture this: it's late at night, coffee-fuelled energy levels are dangerously high, and I'm elbows deep in wiring up the products app to the blog. The blog. That same blog that has been responsible for countless errors, comments disappearing like socks in a washing machine, and me considering a new career in sock puppet theatre.
But last night? Oh, we were unstoppable! Everything just clicked. The products app started behaving like an actual app, and for a brief, glorious moment, it felt like the universe itself was high-fiving us. We were on fire, the code was flowing, and there was even this moment where ChatGPT suggested I go to bed. Like, "Hey, you’re human – sleep’s a thing, remember?"
Naturally, I laughed it off and carried on, but you know what? He was kinda right.
This morning, though? Yeah, I may have overslept (just a tad). Instead of hitting the code straight away, I decided to take a break, grab some coffee, and ponder life's mysteries – like, why does the universe hate perfectly written blog comments? Why? 😭
And then, back to work. First thing I did? Strip out loads of stuff from the products app. You know, the bits that were super cool and overly complicated. The stuff that works, but for the love of all things Django, I need to prove it works to my course instructor. And let’s be real, that means testing... lots of testing. Ain’t nobody got time for that.
So, we’re back to a barebones MVP. It’s like I had this multi-tiered wedding cake with sparklers and edible flowers, and now I’ve shaved it down to a cupcake. A really good
cupcake, mind you, but still... it's got to pass the test.
But the funny thing? I still haven’t tackled the custom model with CRUD functionality. Yep, the one I need to actually submit this thing. And I’m over here unravelling the mysteries of how products relate to each other, figuring out what’s free, what requires a sign-up, and what needs a payment. It’s a bit like hosting a party and forgetting whether the snacks are on the house or cost $20 a plate.
So, here we are. It’s been a rollercoaster, filled with moments of triumph, followed by hours of "Wait, did I really remove that perfectly good code on purpose?" 😂
But hey, it’s all part of the ride. This project is like a complicated, slightly confused child that I’ve come to love. And even though it’s far from over, I can see the finish line peeking through the chaos.
Now, time to go back and tackle that CRUD model before I forget my own name.
Here’s to more late nights, high-fives, and maybe (just maybe) remembering that sleep is a thing.
